The Ocean Gave Us Everything — It's Time We Gave Back
As expedition yacht owners, we are among the most privileged people on Earth. We traverse the world's most remote and pristine waters — from the ice-laden passages of Antarctica to the vibrant coral reefs of the South Pacific. We witness the raw majesty of the ocean in ways most people can only dream of. But with that privilege comes a profound responsibility.
Our oceans are in crisis. Marine ecosystems that have thrived for millennia are under siege from pollution, overfishing, rising temperatures, and acidification. The very waters we explore — the waters that fuel our passion, our livelihoods, and our sense of wonder — are disappearing before our eyes. If we don't act now, the pristine anchorages and thriving reefs we cherish will exist only in our logbooks and memories.
The International SeaKeepers Society: Turning Yachts into Research Vessels
That's why Xplorer Yachts passionately advocates for every expedition yacht owner to get involved with The International SeaKeepers Society — a groundbreaking nonprofit that transforms private yachts into platforms for critical ocean science and conservation.
Founded in 1998, SeaKeepers partners with the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development and connects yacht owners directly with marine researchers. Through their DISCOVERY Yacht Program, your expedition vessel becomes a floating research station — hosting scientists, deploying oceanographic instruments, and collecting data that advances our understanding of the marine environment.
Why Expedition Yachts Are Uniquely Positioned to Make a Difference
Expedition yachts go where traditional research vessels often cannot. We reach the most remote atolls, the deepest fjords, and the most untouched coastlines on the planet. Our vessels are built for endurance, range, and rough seas. That makes every expedition yacht a potential asset in the fight to understand and protect our oceans.
Participation is flexible — it can be as simple as a 10-minute instrument deployment while you're underway, or as involved as hosting a multi-week research expedition with a full scientific team aboard. SeaKeepers works with you to match opportunities to your vessel's capabilities, your cruising itinerary, and your personal interests.
A Challenge to the Expedition Yacht Community
At Xplorer Yachts, we believe that owning an expedition yacht is not just about the adventure — it's about stewardship. Every nautical mile we log should leave the ocean better than we found it. We challenge every expedition yacht owner, captain, and crew member to join us in supporting The International SeaKeepers Society.
The ocean doesn't need more spectators. It needs champions. And there is no community better equipped to answer that call than ours.
